With all the blessings of Lord Dharma Sastha, the trustees of the Nalloor Vettuvenni Kandan Sastha Devaswom established a pioneer educational venture in the year 1963. It is a Trust that administers a famous private temple, named Nalloor Vettuvenni Kandan Sastha Temple. The Temple is situated near the banks of the river, Thamirabarani. The College is situated at Attoor, a rural area surrounded by a chain of villages, rivers and foot hills, a citadel of education, culture and renaissance.

The N.V.K.S. Devaswom Trust, with a clear vision and mission under the able leadership of the then President Sri. K.P. Rama Krishna Pillai B.A., decided in October 1961 to utilise the fund of the N.V.K.S. Devaswom Trust for some social and educational purpose and as a result of that a teacher education institution was established - a long felt need of Kanyakumari District. In the year 1963, the Syndicate of the University of Madras granted provisional affiliation to the college and it started functioning from 8th July 1963 with a strength of 60 students. The College is co-educational and presently has a strength of 162 (100 students for B.Ed, 50 for M.Ed and 12 for M.Phil) students on its roll. Initially the college offered instructions in four optional subjects namely English, Mathematics, History and Natural Science. Subsequently two more optional subjects Physical Science and Early Child hood Education were introduced.

• The college got affiliated to Madras University.
• The first lamp of the institution was lit by Shri. A.N.Thampi, Retd. Director of Public Instruction,
Kerala.
• The foundation stone for the college building was laid by His Excellency Shri.Bishnuram Medhi,
the then Governor of Tamilnadu.
• The college was admitted to Grant–inaid system.
• The college was reaffiliated to Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai.
• The college was included under section 2(f) and 12 (B) of the UGC Act.
• A model school under CBSE system was established.
• Early Childhood Education was introduced as an optional subject for the B.Ed. course.
• Physical Science Education was introduced as an optional subject for the B.Ed. programme.
• Postgraduate programme in Education (M.Ed.) was started with an intake of 15 students.
• A new building of the college was constructed to mark the Silver Jubilee Year.
• The college was reaffiliated to Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Tirunelveli.
• A fully equipped computer lab was established.
• Alumni Association was organised and started with the initiative of Dr.R.Mukundan, Principal and
Shri. K.Gopinathan Nair, Secretary who were both the alumni of this institution.
• Indira Gandhi National Open University recognised our college as a study centre for the
B.Ed course.
• The college auditorium was inaugurated by Dr. P.Chellathurai, the Registrar of Manonmaniam
Sundaranar University.
• Teacher Training Institute with NCTE and Government approval was established.
• M.Phil. Course (Full time and Part time) in Education was started with an intake of 15 students.
• The college was accredited by NAAC with B++ Grade.
• NCTE approval for additional intake of 25 students for the M.Ed. programme was obtained.
• Foundation stone for the UGC aided Women’s Hostel was laid by Shri. T.K.A. Nair, Principal
Secretary to the Honourable Prime Minister of India.
• Extension of the main building was inaugurated by the Shri. Kapil Kumar.C.Saratkar, I.P.S.
Superintendent of Police, Kanyakumari District, in the presence of Shri.D.Sahayadas,
Joint Director of Collegiate of Education, Tirunelveli.
• The college was reaffiliated to the Tamilnadu Teachers Education University, Chennai.
• An additional 10 seats were added to the M.Ed. course making the total strength fifty.
• Additional common room for girl students was constructed.
• Two more additional programmes of IGNOU namely Post Graduate Diploma in PrePrimary
Education and Diploma in Elementary Education were introduced.
• Class rooms were digitalised.
• IQAC News Letter was published.
• Completed the construction of Women's hostel.
• A journal in Education entitled Frontiers in Education and Research’ was launched.
• Another new building for the college to mark the Golden Jubilee Year was constructed.
• The College has got the status of Centre for Reasearch.
• The college was re-accredited by NAAC with A Grade (CGPA 3.32)
• B.Ed two years course and M.Ed two years course were started.
• The College was conferred with the autonomous status.
• Launched Swayam NPTEL local chapter.
• Construction of Dimond Jubilee block and Auditorium.
